April 2009 Hackathon
Mobilize your content and win!
During the Mobile BarCamp at The Next Web Conference on April 15, Forum Nokia will challenge mobile and web developers to submit their best Web Runtime (WRT) widgets or mobilized websites for judging in an on-the-spot competition. The best entry will win a new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. Individuals can submit their work in any of the following areas:
Mobilize your web service or application
- Highlight intelligent device detection and categorization
- Create a customized experience for different device groups
- Deliver ingenious website usability on mobile devices
Super-powered mobile mashups with WRT for S60 devices
- Bundle your favorite web APIs with S60 Platform Services
- Submit ideas that make the most of device features and technology, such as location-based services, internal accelerometer, or personal information management (i.e., phonebook or calendar)
Dev Tools and Utilities
- Design a mobile optimized, cross-browser UI framework or reusable HTML/CSS template
- Set up a community (such as CSS Zen Garden) for mobile-optimized designs
- Debugging and analysis tools for mobile web developers
- Video encoding tools to mobile-friendly formats
- Demonstrate ways to gracefully revert to the best supported media format
Participants will be able to do last-minute debugging and testing at the Mobile BarCamp with an on-site Forum Nokia technical expert.
Developers that are planning to submit WRT widgets for the competition during the Mobile BarCamp can take advantage of the free Nokia WRT Plug-In for Aptana Studio, and use standard web technologies (such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS) to easily create, edit, test, and deploy WRT widgets for Nokia S60 devices, using either Aptana Studio or Aptana Studio Pro. The Plug-In is available from Forum Nokia.
If the winner selected by Forum Nokia represents a company, and/or has a product to market, that individual will have the opportunity to join Forum Nokia Launchpad, which is designed to accelerate mobile application development and elevate developer’s business visibility in the mobile world. All Forum Nokia Launchpad members receive access to exclusive resources and support. A Business Development Manager from Forum Nokia will be available to take this conversation further.
Additionally, entries received during the Mobile BarCamp can be submitted to Forum Nokia’s Calling All Innovators contest, which is seeking mobile-optimized websites and WRT widgets that transform consumer ideas into real applications for Nokia devices. Contest prizes include both cash and immediate business opportunities with Nokia. Entries for Calling All Innovators will be accepted until midnight (EST) on 30 June 2009.
